Congratulations to George Liu, age 13, in Grade 8, from Dolphin Senior Public School our 2020 Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest Winner. His work won at three succesive levels of our contest including all10 Lions Clubs Districts in Ontario, Canada. Services Recognized: One of our members Lynn Friedman has been recognized for her contribution in service by her sewing and donating over 1,400 Masks, scrub caps and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) since the Covid-19 Epidemic began. Lynn had prepared a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation on how she assembles these Face Masks. You can see her instructions for making them: Here.
Our Annual Cheque Recipient Recognition Event for the organizations we support was held on Tuesday January 19, 2021. As we are operating with Covid-19 restrictions we held our event virtually this year mailing contributions to our chosen recipients. We held a ZOOM call attended by some 42 different organizations where we recogined each for their contributions to our community. The money we distributed was raised through operation of our Farmers Markets and running Bingo's at the RAMA Gaming House in Mississauga. We distribute funds annually to many organizations, causes, charities and camps that positively contribute to our Community locally and globally. In November 2021 we will ship over 14,400 pairs of used eyewear to our Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre in Calgary.In October 26 2020 we shipped 26,603 pairs.
Used Eyeglasses collected are supplied to missions that deliver glasses to the needy globally. Visit www.recycleforsight.ca to find your nearest collection point (all types of eyeglasses accepted (broken Frames too), we also accept used hearing aids).
